New bar swans on to the nightlife scene

A ‘Cygnet’ is swanning in to the nightlife industry in St Peter Port.

The former premises of Koi Koi, owned by Randalls, are being taken over by Ina Vladimirova and Yvonne Dimova, the team behind The Swan in St Julian’s Avenue.

‘We feel Guernsey needed a bigger space for people to just come and enjoy, whether you want a nice drink around six o’clock pre-dinner, or you can come after dinner and party later on,’ said Miss Vladimirova.

The new tenants first came to Guernsey from Bulgaria 12 years ago, at first intending to move on to London, but found themselves falling in love with the island.

‘That was nuts. It’s a lovely community, the people and services are so nice and everyone is really helpful,’ Miss Vladimirova said.

They soon found their niche in local hospitality, and have run The Swan for the past seven years.

The pair had been looking to do something different in the industry for a while, and first became interested in the Lefebvre Street property during the summer.

Work began from September with a new ‘modern and classic’ style over the three floors of the premises, with space allocated for dancing too. The venue’s capacity has increased from 145 to 185 people.

The Lefebvre Street property has changed hands a few times over the years, most recently Koi Koi and the pop-up bar Yeti, but Miss Vladimirova is positive about St Peter Port’s bar scene.

‘I think the business is changing, so we need to change with it. Bars in Guernsey are really nice and we like going out to different places as well, but this side of Town is getting more lively now. There are different new places opening with different styles,’ she said.

Cygnet is expected to open later this week.
