St Saviour’s Church to hold service for bereaved parents

St Saviour’s Church will hold a ‘Lights of Love’ service for bereaved parents on Friday.

The service will include carols and readings, selected by local parents who have lost a child, as well as the reading of a roll of the late children’s names, during which parents have the option to come up and light a candle for their lost baby.

‘Each candle represents a child – that’s a very poignant moment,’ said the Rev. Linda Le Vasseur, who has organised the event.

A Christmas tree will also be placed in the church, with tags available for parents to hang on its branches.

‘Families are given a tag and they can write their baby’s name or a message for them,’ said Mrs Le Vasseur.

The tree will then remain in St Saviour’s Church for the duration of the Christmas season.

The service is being run in conjunction with Sands, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity, a national charity that provides support to anyone affected by the death of a baby, born or unborn.

The charity organises the annual Lights of Love services for parents all across the British Isles, which means that those gathered at St Saviour’s will be coming together at the same time as every other bereaved parent attending a service across Britain.

The service, likely to last a little under an hour, will be held at 7.30pm on Friday.
