Wendy Wilson joined the school as acting deputy head in 2016, became deputy head in January 2017 and head teacher in May 2022.
Her career in education began in schools in the late 1980s and early 1990s before she progressed to senior leadership.
‘In my 10th year at St Anne’s School, I feel deeply thankful for the privilege of working alongside a fabulous staff team and so many generations of our wonderful school community,’ she said.
‘It has been an honour to play even a small part in their learning journeys and personal growth. Now that Alderney is truly my home, I look forward to watching our island’s young people continue to thrive and flourish – this time from the gentler perspective of someone enjoying a well-earned and leisurely retirement when that chapter arrives.’
There will be opportunities for the school community to celebrate and thank Mrs Wilson before the end of the school year.
Head of primary leadership and development Kim Hutchison said she was grateful for the leadership, care and commitment shown by Mrs Wilson in her time at the school.
‘Under her leadership, St Anne’s School has been a caring and supportive school, which maintains high expectations for all its pupils, underpinned by strong teaching and learning,’ she said.
‘Mrs Wilson leaves behind a positive and lasting legacy for the whole school community.’
The process of appointing a new headteacher will now begin.
