Music section coordinator Katherine Wegerer said that preparations this year had been a little more challenging due to a transition to an online system.

‘It means that participants could register and pay online, and then upload sheet music and any backing songs, and we’ve had to try and marry the paper and paperless systems,’ she said.

‘It’s going to be as much fun as always. We have nearly 600 people registered across the usual classes, strings, pianos, singing, choirs, it’s all fun and games.

‘We have all the silly classes on the last night too, as well as songs from the shows, which is still probably the most popular class.’

Mrs Wegerer said that once the curtain had gone up, she would be able to relax and enjoy the local musical talent.

Organisation of the classes had to accommodate the Jersey Dance Awards, she said. This year, the adjudicator is prize-winning viola player and pianist Roy Robinson.

He has a background as an organist, conductor, and published composer, as well as vast experience as a choral trainer, and has spent most of his career combining performing, teaching, examining and adjudicating.

There are still some music section trophies missing since the Covid pandemic. It would be welcomed if they were returned during the course of this year’s classes.

This year’s first music class starts at 2pm in the Beau Sejour theatre.
