Supermarket rubbish was spread across a patch of the wooded area on the cliff face below Belvedere field car park.

It was discovered at the weekend, and reported due to concerns of it spreading further and ending up in the sea.

The person who reported it said that some of the supermarket bags appeared unused.

Director for Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation for the States, Tobin Cook, said fly-tipping was a ‘blight on any landscape’.

‘This particular incident has taken place on public land and so my colleagues in Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services have been alerted and are now arranging a clear-up,’ he said.

‘If the rubbish has any identifiable data relating to its origin, then Environmental Health will follow that up and take action accordingly.’
