Seaside fun for families at Havelet Regatta

The fourth Havelet Regatta proved another bouy-ant success, and its crew said the accessible family fundraiser is now maturing nicely into a well-established event.

Hundreds of people flocked to the North Esplanade on Sunday, to enjoy some seaside fun in aid of the Guernsey Cheshire Home.

The Ezyrollers, Dash and Splash and Have A Go Row returned, as sea swimmers, sailors, and dogs stretched their agility skills down by the water. Last year the event raised £12,000 for the Cheshire Home.

Organiser Barrie Duerden said moving the regatta’s usual September slot to June – ahead of the summer holidays – meant more families could attend and donate vital funds.

‘The Cheshire Home is a local charity that needs a lot of support,’ he said.

‘Its 11 residents are in their 30s, 40s, and 50s – they want to live as best a life they can, and to be stuck in a home is so sad.

‘We want to do what we can to help, and aim to make this event as accessible and sustainable as possible. We’re really happy with it. It’s been months in preparation, with lots of sponsors supporting, and it’s great to see so many people having so much fun in this beautiful space.’
