Damage was sustained during Storm Goretti in January to the slipway located within the curtilage of the children’s pool.

Remedial works were completed to prevent the structure deteriorating further, but now States engineers have recommended a full repair, which should also incorporate steps from the damaged section of the slipway onto the beach.

The exact number of steps will be determined on site.

The application said that wheelchair access was discussed, but that it would be impossible for a wheelchair to access the beach – though it did not say why.

‘Guernsey’s coast is always vulnerable to damage from the sea, and so it’s important for us to remain proactive in maintaining and enhancing our island’s coastal defence,’ said E&I infrastructure officer Marco Tersigni.

‘While these works are needed following the damage from Storm Goretti earlier this year, the proposed new steps will create a safer and more convenient route between the promenade and the beach.’

The proposed works form part of the Environment & Infrastructure committee’s ongoing programme to maintain and enhance the island’s coastal defences.
