Guernsey Post to offer next-day and tracked services

A next-day delivery service will be trialled by Guernsey Post following the end of the mail plane service.

The new range of delivery options will offer greater choice on price, tracking and speed for letters and parcels sent to the UK and will come into play from 6 July, when mail will be transported via sea freight.

The service will be introduced using a scheduled Aurigny flight and will carry letters, documents and medical samples up to 750g, connecting directly into Royal Mail’s network.

It will be priced to provide a competitive alternative to next-day courier services and will be run as a three-month trial, with the potential to become permanent subject to customer demand.

A new tracked service and lower prices will also be introduced.

New services include a tracked option alongside reduced special delivery pricing so customers have more choice in how they send items to the UK.

The new tracked service covers letters, large letters and parcels up to 2kg.

‘All incoming mail already arrives reliably by sea. Moving outbound mail to the same model means customers will see minimal difference, while helping ensure a financially sustainable service for the future,’ said Guernsey Post chief executive Steve Sheridan.

‘It also allows us to introduce better-value options, including our new tracked service, which offers a lower price than standard mail on some weight steps, along with the reassurance of tracking.

‘For customers with time-critical items, we are also introducing a next-day by air option, ensuring urgent deliveries remain supported whilst we test this service.’

  • Full-service details, including pricing and posting cut-off times will be available on the Guernsey Post website from Wednesday 17 June.
