He was unopposed in an election to replace Deputy Andy Niles, who had to give up his seat when he joined Policy & Resources as the replacement for Deputy Gavin St Pier.
Deputy Laine had also been tipped for Policy & Resources at one time but his only committee seat previously had been on the Development & Planning Authority, although he is also P&R’s IT adviser as it seeks to address the issues of overspends and contract failures in IT which have dogged the States in recent years.
Deputy Laine has a background in technology and entrepreneurship, having launched and run several businesses.
