Over recent months, a voluntary crew from the parish douzaine have been busy creating and renewing several green spaces in town in a bid to brighten the island’s hub.

These include a herb planter in the Rohais, additional flower planters at Brock Road Plantation, a lavender corner in Bruce Lane, and the boat planter at Salerie Corner.

‘Plants, flowers, and herbs play an important role in community wellbeing and provide welcoming visual appeal for holidaymakers,’ said Evita Bormane, floral lead for St Peter Port.

‘The parish team has worked extremely hard to create these spaces and to keep all areas clean, tidy, and presentable throughout the year.

'We hope to lead by example and encourage parishioners and business owners to take pride in their surroundings, keep them well maintained, and consider adding extra planters where appropriate. We work closely with our suppliers and take their professional advice on board when selecting and caring for plants. We genuinely enjoy what we do and hope that residents and visitors are enjoying these improvements across the town.’

Adding vibrant life with flowers is part of Project St Peter Port – the douzaine’s ongoing initiative to enhance town’s appearance and environment, with hopes to install a communal sense of pride and heighten visitor enjoyment.

St Peter Port parish is entering its efforts in the Bailiwick in Bloom competition, with judging taking place on 1 July.

The floral team said this entry represents community pride, dedication, and a shared love of St Peter Port. With pollinator-friendly planting and initiatives that enhance wellbeing – its efforts reflect the competition’s values for horticultural excellence, environmental awareness and sustainability.

‘From window boxes bursting with summer flowers to thoughtfully-tended public spaces, each corner of the parish reflects the effort and enthusiasm of those who call it home,’ said Miss Bormane.

‘What makes this year’s entry so special is the spirit behind it. Early mornings spent watering, neighbours sharing advice over garden gates, and volunteers transforming overlooked spaces into welcoming pockets of greenery – these are the moments that truly define St Peter Port’s participation.’
