Alderney runway plans remain on track, says P&R

The development of cost-effective plans to rehabilitate the runway at Alderney Airport remain on track, the Policy & Resources Committee president has confirmed.

Deputy de Sausmarez said that the project was critical to both P&R and the States Trading Supervisory Board.

Alderney representative Alex Snowdon asked a question of Lindsay de Sausmarez in the States, having previously expressed concerns, which were quickly rebutted, that the project was slipping behind its tight deadlines.

‘My understanding is that that work is still broadly on track, but I assure Mr Snowdon that he will be among the first to hear when we do have any more updates to report,’ she said.

Deputy de Sausmarez said that the project was critical to both P&R and the States Trading Supervisory Board, and she would update as soon as there was something to add. The project has a locked-in budget cap of £24m.

The senior committee has also said it will consider publishing details of Aurigny’s performance on Alderney flights in relation to its Public Service Obligation, which is funded by Policy & Resources.

Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller raised the issue in the States, highlighting a lack of performance statistics against the PSO mandate.

Alderney residents have complained about Aurigny’s performance in servicing the island this year, culminating in a public protest at the airport where Aurigny CEO Nico Bezuidenhout defended the airline on the tarmac outside the airport terminal.
