Organisers said they had more than 2,000 visitors over the weekend.

‘It was encouraging to see so many family groups enjoying the races, reflecting a key focus of the committee’s work over the recent years. Creating a welcoming, family‑friendly event has been central to its success and continues to shape the character of the weekend, and brings wider benefit to the island economy.’

Takings were up slightly year-on-year, though this year’s funds raised will not be confirmed until all accounts are completed.

Funds from sheep racing go directly towards subsidised prescriptions for islanders, a long‑standing and essential benefit. Over the past 10 years the event has raised more than £300,000.

The organising committee is now intending to stand down and replacement volunteers are being sought.

‘We hope the event’s proven success will help guide future organisers when the time comes,’ they said.
