Inshore patrol vessel HMS Explorer is visiting the island this week, and the ship’s commanding officer has offered for young people to meet crew members, step aboard a serving Royal Navy vessel and gain insight into the opportunities the Royal Navy can offer.
HMS Explorer is one of 16 patrol vessels providing maritime security and operations within Europe’s waters.
The 21m ship is operated by a team of five sailors and a lieutenant, but can accommodate up to 15 additional personnel ranging from specialist teams, trainee officers and ratings and students.
Explorer also plays a role in engaging the public, mainly inspiring the next generation.
The vessel will be opening its doors to visitors from 10am until 2pm.
Visitor numbers are limited, and small groups will be welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis.
It will be moored at the cruise ship pontoon behind Pier 17.
