In the first phase Infinity Construction is erecting a 4m-high acoustic fence on the boundary between the existing Mallard car park and wider site and Le Rondin School.
This unusual feature was a condition of the planning development which Paul Nobes, from Infinity, said the company was more than happy to comply with.
‘Works have been carefully planned in accordance with the school, within the summer holidays, to mitigate as much disruption as possible for the children,’ he said.
The fence is specifically designed to reflect as much noise as possible, protecting the school throughout the phases of work from excess construction noise, and then ultimately once the development is completed, from the new properties.
‘As well as providing a high-mass separation, effectively blocking sound, the fence also forms an aesthetic solution,’ Mr Nobes added.
When completed, the project will provide 69 new affordable homes for the Guernsey Housing Association as well as 16 private sector properties.
Mr Nobes says that as soon as the fence has been completed his team will be moving on to the next phase of the preparatory works.
These include the remodelling and upgrading of the existing Mallard car park, as well as creating a new access road to the south of the existing complex. Access to the Mallard Cinema, as well as all associated businesses, will be maintained throughout.
