Sheer volume of roadworks for such a small island is pathetic

I haven’t had a moan for a while so here goes.

Regarding the States contract with Agilisys, well who would have thought that they could have got it so horribly wrong? Quickly sign a contract for millions and millions of pounds (which they haven’t got) of our money before reading the small print, then realising their mistake when it’s too late and they’ve already parted with goodness knows how many millions of pounds. Now the contract will go to several different parties, which should suit our States fine as well as there will be no joined-up thinking.

I only mention this farce because I tried to get on the gov.gg website this morning but it wasn’t interested. The reason why I needed the website was to find out which States departments I should send my bills to. Let me explain. I do deliveries for work every week but because of the frankly ridiculous amount of road closures it invariably takes closer to three hours than the two that it used to, therefore I need to bill someone for an hour’s overtime every week.

It doesn’t sound much but over the course of a year it soon adds up. Also, again because of the closures, my petrol costs are £10 per week more than they were as I can never simply drive to work and back. I would like to claim this money back as well but I don’t know which department to send my bills to. I know that roadworks are a part of life but the sheer volume for such a small island is pathetic.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world a bit and I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else. Just to exacerbate the problem, the roads that are open are (mostly) in a disgusting state anyway. How were they ever allowed to get in such a mess?

On to developments now.

I see that the Pointes Rocques development has now been approved without affordable housing. The only new housing we really need is affordable housing to try to stop the exodus of young locals from the island. Don’t even get me started on Leale’s Yard. Although it would be nice if someone would start on it. Rob Batiste was spot on the other day when he said it won’t happen.

Anyway, I have studied all the info for the upcoming election and I’ve managed to find six or seven candidates to vote for. Six or seven out of 82 suggests that our problems won’t be over anytime soon. Glad to get that off my chest, happy summer everyone.
