‘We love Guernsey but find the constant roadworks frustrating’

My family have been regular visitors to Guernsey for 68 years. Our parents, the children’s grandparents, have been coming since 1957.

We love Guernsey but find the constant roadworks frustrating. While necessary, road closures and the diversions are a nightmare.

We use the buses, they have always been good, but see stops are being suspended, presumably due to roadworks? We also hire a car if we come over as family.

We attempted to get to the airport via a diversion. This was a complicated route, single track roads and no signage for the airport. We passed the perimeter at one point but no signs for the route to it.

How are holidaymakers (including the non-English speaking) expected to find their way down single track roads with no or poor signs at junctions other than a blue arrow indicating a one-way road? An airport sign is needed at each junction! Unable to turn round on a single track road means you could miss your flight.

We were heading for Portelet but returned to St Peter Port.

Hope we find the airport when it's time to go home.
