Indies in seventh heaven as they are crowned champions
GUERNSEY have new champions for the first time in years after Independents took their chance to be crowned on Saturday.
But a dramatic season almost took another twist at Footes Lane where, a week after drawing with Colombians to knock their title hopes off track, Casuals came close to spoiling the party.
An extraordinary first half saw Casuals forge 3-1 ahead in the opening 28 minutes after Chris Lowin had given them a second-minute lead on an afternoon when he scored all four of their goals, while in that time a nerve-racked Indies could muster only Dan Slimm's reply as Ben Cormack hit the post with a sixth-minute penalty stroke.
However, once Lowin's third had hit the backboard, it brought about a complete mood-swing within the Indies camp as tension was replaced with purpose and an amazing spell of four goals in six minutes turned the game on its head before half-time and ultimately clinched them the title.
They went on to win 7-4 with a hat-trick from Slimm and two goals apiece for Andy Alford and Josh Kendal.
