Stokes in Elite International Academy

NIC POTHAS fully expects to see emerging all-rounder Matt Stokes play Hampshire 2nd XI cricket this summer.

Stokes, 19, got a brief taste of life out in the middle at the Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire CCC in Southampton, when he took part in last Friday's rain wrecked game for a Hampshire XI against 'The New Zealanders'.

'He will get plenty of opportunities,' said the GCB director of cricket, who has influence and respect at the county having played 231 first-class games for them over the best part of two decades.

'Once he is finished his school work, he will play and train with the Elite International Academy that is based at the Ageas Bowl.'

Pothas has a good deal of faith in the former College player who is working at Beechwood School before moving to Solent University in September.

'It is not often you hang your hat on someone, but all I know is that he has got what it takes to be a professional cricketer – if he wants to do it and I think he does want to do it.'

'He has made big progress but now he has got to start putting in match-winning performances for Guernsey.'
