DALE GARLAND has admitted that he could miss the NatWest Island Games through injury.

The multi gold-medallist is desperately trying to shake off a persistent calf problem which is detrimental to the training he requires to take his place in the 4x400 relay squad for Jersey.

Garland's presence in the team could mean all the difference between gold and silver or bronze in the one-lap relay which is one of the most exciting events on the track and field programme and one which has brought the Sarnians plenty of glory.

The former GB international is still capable of running sub 49sec. and that sort of performance combined with a squad of real depth headed by his protege Cameron Chalmers, would likely put the Sarnians in the gold medal mix.

Meanwhile, Kylie Robilliard has made her first competitive appearance of the season in the 100 hurdles in which she is expected to be a strong contender. But it brought a disappointing time of 15.36sec. in the UK Women's League Division One match at Stoke Gifford on Sunday. Her island record stands at 13.54sec.

Her only race on the 100 flat this year was a more promising 12.39 in Loughborough at the end of May.
