Trio to make island debuts in EH Trophy
THREE new faces freshen up the Guernsey squad as they begin their campaign to regain the EH Men's Trophy this weekend.
Newcomers to local hockey Tom Rigby, Dusty Stevens and Morgan Harries join the ranks of Andy Whalley's side, who have reached the final in the last four editions of the national knockout, but lost their hold on the silverware in May in an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat to Sheffield University Bankers at Lee Valley.
In total there are five changes to the squad who played in the 2015 final in Olympic Park for Sunday's first-round tie with Crawley at Footes Lane (12.30pm start), with Sam Dawes returning to the squad after a hip operation cut short his involvement halfway through last season's run to the final while Tom Still is now back in the island having completed his university studies.
'It has meant my squad has gone from 16 to 19 or 20 guys all fighting for places, so that has been really good for me,' said Whalley.
