The 12-day event will take place in Canberra from 29 March to 9 April.

'I am, of course, delighted to be selected for the England O40s World Cup squad and it's a great honour to be named as captain for such a big tournament,' Whalley said.

'The Australians will undoubtedly go into the tournament as favourites, as they are not only hosting but also the current holders of the trophy.

'However, we have a very strong squad, which includes three-time Olympian Simon Mason in goal so we will be a very difficult team to score against.

'At the last World Cup in Holland we only narrowly lost out to Australia 4-3 in the semi-finals, so hope to go one better this time.'
