Raiders lose their winning record away to Shelford
SHELFORD ended Guernsey Raiders' winning start to the season on Saturday, although there was a losing bonus-point for Jordan Reynolds' men as they went down 22-17.
Two successful penalties from fly-half Kenny Hellier, filling in for the injured Owen Thomas, gave Raiders a narrow 6-3 lead at half-time, but in the second half the visitors were unable to capitalise on having both the wind and the slope of the pitch in their favour.
After Matt Thomas had been sent to the sin bin for pulling down a maul, Shelford scored two tries in quick succession to take a 17-6 lead early in the second half.
Another Hellier penalty and then an unconverted try from Luke Jones pulled Raiders back to within three, but Shelford sealed the win with their third try before Hellier clinched the losing bonus point with a successful penalty with the last kick of the game.
