A man on a mission

ANDY PRIAULX expects the season-long battle for the FIA World Endurance drivers’ championship to come down to the final stint of the final race this weekend.

Following their victory in Shanghai in the penultimate meeting of the campaign, the Guernsey star and his Ford Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Harry Tincknell have arrived in Bahrain with renewed hope of claiming the title, but Priaulx is not underestimating the task ahead.

‘It is the last race of the year, we are seven-and-a-half points off the lead of the championship, so basically if everyone finishes we need to win the race and put our Ford GT on pole,’ he said.

‘It is a tall ask, but possible.’

Priaulx will benefit from previous experience, though.

‘In the days when I was racing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship I have gone to races on the back foot and come away as the champion,’ he said.

‘I learnt then that you have to be positive and this is how I am approaching the coming weekend.’
