The Green Lionesses found themselves 3-0 down within the first 15 minutes of their toughest test so far. Manager Anna Gauvain said she was pleased with how her side responded to Farnham’s early goals in the second half.

‘Obviously conceding three goals, that did give us a mountain to climb, but actually the response from the girls was fantastic after going behind,’ she said.

‘Even just before half-time, we started to get into the game. At half-time we highlighted some of the stuff that we might have wanted to do better and the girls came out and did that so I’m pleased with them.

‘We knew this was going to be tough and hopefully we can just put it behind us and get on with next week when we’ve got another away game.’

GFC came back out after the break much stronger in its attack and within five minutes Scarlett Kenneally got on the end of Jess Frampton’s long throw and scored a screamer from outside the area.

Rochelle Mullen headed in a corner to score Guernsey FC’s other goal.

‘She [Kenneally] was good because she made something out of not a lot really, she just made the move forward from a throw in – we’ll ask her if it was a cross or a shot, but I’m sure she’s well happy to get on the scoresheet, as is Rochelle probably,’ said Gauvain.

As well as the two goalscorers Gauvain praised her wing backs for their efforts on Sunday afternoon.

‘Our wing backs had to work extremely hard to lift the ball and we spoke about that before the game,’ she said.

‘Amy Dallamore’s work rate has been absolutely outstanding all season and she’s managed to keep herself in the starting line up, I think she’s making that position her own.’

As well as a disappointing result for the Green Lionesses it was also a blow to see Codie Le Flem forced off with an ankle injury.

‘Hopefully it’s nothing too serious, a sprained ankle perhaps, but that’s going to take time to recover,’ said Gauvain.

‘I feel really bad for her because that was probably one game that she really wanted to play the most and she was doing really well actually, and she’s one of the ones that if you have in and around the box she would hopefully get a goal.’

GFC are back on the road this weekend, travelling to AFC Varsity on Sunday, with their next home game coming against Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Sunday 23 November.
