Guernsey Ladies coach hails his gutsy XV
COACH Chris Griffiths can’t wait for the Teddington home game on Sunday week after his ladies side produced what he called ‘a fantastic performance’ to push title-chasing Reading Abbey Nuns all the way at Footes Lane.
Reading, who will go top if they win their match in hand, struggled to overcome the Guernsey side 40-19.
‘I felt we didn’t deserve to be 7-26 down at half time and I was pleased to see that we played very strongly in the second half to bring it back to 19-26 – and could have pulled level until they scored the break-away try with 10 minutes to go, which took the wind out of our sails at just the wrong time.
‘I thought it showed real guts and determination against a very good team currently and who were clearly much younger. The forwards played really well but I must praise our back line who were to a player, with the exception of Jemma [Crouse], all playing out of position and in Lucy Pratt’s case playing her first ever senior game.
‘It is a credit to them that the opposition after the game said they would have had no idea that they had not played together like that before.’
