Guernsey moving in right direction

A NATIONAL TWO victory continues to elude Guernsey Raiders, but they came up with the improvement their coach was calling for on Saturday.

Redruth were both joyous and relieved when the final whistle blew on a 16-15 win for the visitors at a wet and windy Footes Lane with the home side having gained impressive late momentum, but Jordan Reynolds willingly conceded that the Cornwall outfit were value for their victory.

‘I don’t know if we deserved more [than a losing bonus point],’ he said.

‘We had our opportunities in the first half, we just didn’t take them well enough, but I think we did in the second half, which was fantastic.

‘We had points on offer and we made a few mistakes. Once again in the first half we didn’t stick to the game plan that we wanted, which was to put the ball down there, and we turned over possession, but what I would say is that coming into the wind we played far superior to them. I take confidence from that,’ added Reynolds, who described the performances of Lewis Hillier and Doug Horrocks as ‘outstanding’.

‘I think we did some good stuff today. We weren’t shy to throw that pass in the backline and we created some space too.

‘We are disappointed that we didn’t get the win, but did we deserve to lose? Yes, because we didn’t take our opportunities.

‘But we are not bitter about it, Redruth deserved it and fair play to them, they are a very good side.’
