‘All through the season I have not been close at all, but the night before I was thinking “I’m going to score – tomorrow’s the day”,’ said the 19-year-old, who netted the opener for Brighton & Hove Albion in their 3-1 win over Bristol City on Sunday. ‘It’s also Liberation Day back home in Guernsey, so it’s nice to celebrate that as well.’
Victory secured a top-half finish for Brighton, who came sixth in the 12-team league, while Bristol City were consigned to relegation.
‘We really wanted to finish sixth and we’ve done that with the result today,’ Le Tissier said.
‘It was a hard-fought game and performance – it wasn’t pretty at times, but that’s how it is in these kind of games with Bristol fighting for their lives. But we managed the game really well and were happy to finish sixth.’
The result also atoned for Brighton’s defeat to the Robins in January, which sparked a remarkable turnaround for the Seagulls as they responded by beating champions Chelsea in their next match.
‘The character shown from the girls to bounce back from that [loss to Bristol City] and to get that Chelsea result was a massive turning point. The character from the girls, everybody together, the staff – absolutely incredible,’ said Le Tissier.
‘It just shows how together we are and how much we are willing to fight for the club.’
Brighton play Huddersfield Town Ladies in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this coming Sunday.
