Chertsey Town's Baxter the man to fear for GFC

THEY were too good for the Jersey Bulls – and the fear for all Green Lions fans is that it will be a similar story for GFC when Chertsey Town arrive at Footes Lane tomorrow, where the wind is set to blow and blow hard.

‘The Curfews’ are on a strong run and a 2-1 win at Tooting and Mitcham in midweek – their fifth straight victory in all competitions – has lifted them to fifth in the table with at least a match in hand on all the sides above them.

Managed by former Arsenal European Cup-Winners Cup winner Ian Selley, who took over at Alwyns Lane a month ago, Chertsey certainly impressed Jersey Bulls manager Gary Freeman when they dumped the Caesarean flagship side out of the FA Cup at Springfield. Freeman reacted to that result by saying they were ‘a competent team who know what they are doing. They were very well organised and they knew how to break the game.’

The Curfews’ star man is striker Jake Baxter, who has scored 12 times in all competitions and his nine in the league are bettered only by Tom Collins (13 for Chipstead), Anthony Mendy (12 for Uxbridge) and the South Park and Hanwell Town pair of Adam Aziz and Ogo Obi who have 11 apiece.

Ross Allen sits on the seven mark, the same number as Dave Tarpey, the Bracknell man who shot down the Green Lions at Footes Lane a couple of weeks back.

Guernsey FC will be desperate to avoid a third straight loss having failed to win in five games.

Kick-off is at 2pm, when the wind is set to be in the region of 45 mph.
