GFC flat and out as Merstham take the points

A BIG step to safety was taken by Merstham, the visitors to Footes Lane last night, in overcoming a disappointing Guernsey FC by 2-1 scoreline to lift themselves in the Isthmian South Central table.

Guernsey could have themselves moved further clear of the relegation zone from a classic ‘six-pointer’ but fell two goals behind inside the first 25 minutes and barely had a sight of goal until Ross Allen, inevitably, popped up to grab a goal 10 minutes from time.

A late free kick, again from Allen, well saved by the Merstham goalkeeper, was the best that Guernsey could muster late on.

The brightest spot of the evening for the home side, was the return of midfielder Charlton Gauvain after a season-long injury. He got 25 minutes on the park and showed a few trademark touches.
