Greens show promise despite series defeat
GUERNSEY showed glimpses of exciting potential over the weekend at the KGV – but they could not prevent Jersey from retaining the Women’s Inter-Insular Trophy.
The visitors won the T20I series 3-0, successfully defending 139 to win the first game by 61 runs and then chasing down 85 to win the second match of Saturday’s double-header by eight wickets.
They rounded off their trip with a comprehensive 158-run win yesterday after posting their highest T20I score of 196.
Guernsey coach Ben Ferbrache, though, took a lot out of the weekend with his side just starting out on a journey that Jersey began a couple of years ago.
‘We started off pretty nicely – in game one actually I thought we were really competitive and had Jersey worried in some respects, we took quite a few wickets, the one thing they did very well was kept on scoring,’ he said.
‘Obviously, throughout the weekend it’s just slipped away from us. Always difficult in a tri series when you get behind the game it’s quite hard to come back from that stage, I know we’ve found that in the men’s in the past as well, when you lose game one you’ve got quite a lot to do to try and be ready for games two and three. Then after game two it’s really difficult, I think today showed that.
‘Today I put down to a bad day at the office, yesterday we were still competitive, there were plenty of positives to take out of there, I thought we fielded and bowled really well in the first game particularly, and we actually showed great application for probably 15 out of the 20 overs in game two as well, we just sort of lost our way, which was a shame because we could have gone on to 120-130 and you never know what scoreboard pressure does.’
