GFC fail to hold back a runaway Farnham

GUERNSEY FC were left feeling disappointed and frustrated after suffering another home defeat, this time at the hands of league leaders Farnham Town.

The Green Lions were beaten 6-3 at Footes Lane on Saturday and manager Tony Vance was upset with his side’s performance.

‘Obviously they’re a good side, but in the second half in particular I just don’t think that we really did what I want us to do, to be honest, and that’s to try to build possession,’ said Vance.

‘They’re a good side, they’re too good for this league, but what I wanted to do was try and show that we can play under pressure and we didn’t do that.’

At one point, Guernsey had taken the lead with goals from Jacques Cauvin and Ben Acey, but the visitors equalised before half-time and dominated in the second half.

‘We’re not really ready to compete just yet, certainly against a team like that, but the thing I am disappointed about is that I do back us to be able to play football and back us in some of the stuff that we have worked on that we didn’t do today because we were under pressure. To do it against the lesser teams, it’s easy and to do it in training, but you’ve got to do it and practise doing it against top teams, because if you resort to a different type of game, which is survival, you’re going to struggle.’

The Green Lions will be in action again on Wednesday night at Footes Lane against Binfield FC.
