Having been known to organisers but only confirmed relatively late that he would be travelling, the visiting elite runner lit up the island’s windswept coastal roads with a new course record of 2hrs 29min. 48sec. for the 26.2 miles.

He outshone Guernsey’s own Rick Weston, who had to settle for second despite running faster than his 2023 victory with 2-34-09 – and while pushing solo into relentless west coast headwinds.

Guernsey’s Ciaran Slattery put in a lonely run for third and a huge personal best of 2-44-43.

Jersey’s Rosie Adamson took the women’s honours and a 4min. PB on her first Guernsey Marathon outing.

Aided by a decent group in the challenging headwind miles, she took the victory in 3-24-56.

That put her 3-06 ahead of UK-based Ella Taylor, who has previously won Island Games tennis golds for Guernsey.

Guernsey's Eve Bott took third woman in 3-35-16.
