Guernsey win back Muratti Vase at Victoria Park

The Muratti Vase is back in Guernsey hands after the hosts beat Jersey 3-1 this afternoon in front of over 3,000 fans at Victoria Park.

Virtually everything went to plan for the Greens, who flew out of the blocks to take a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes as captain Ross Allen scored the opener with a perfectly judged lob over Pierce Roche before setting up Charlton Gauvain to drive home the second.

Jersey got a goal back through a Karl Hinds header, but Allen restored the two-goal cushion before half-time with another delightful lofted finish.

On a day when every player in green-and-white did their job impressively, Guernsey managed the game well in the second half with Josh Addison making one fine save on a rare occasion he was called upon.

Jersey were reduced to 10 men with 13 minutes remaining when Luke Campbell was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Matt Loaring very nearly put the icing on the cake in the last minute when he hit the crossbar, but this was definitely Guernsey's day in the sun.

It followed victory for the island’s women earlier in the day as Guernsey sealed back-to-back Women’s Muratti wins for the first time since 2001.
