She put the finishing touches to her collection of seven golds, four of them individual, last night in the concluding swim session at the Pickaquoy Centre.

‘I’ve definitely exceeded expectations,’ she said.

‘Not just individually, but also as a team. You can have such good swims individually and sometimes there is extra pressure, especially as Guernsey is one of the top swimming places competitively – I feel like there is a lot of pressure on us to do well.

‘Coming here and to perform, it’s sometimes challenging, but we really did exceed expectations.’

Her golds last night had come through a Guernsey record of 56.45sec. in the 100m freestyle, plus being part of the 4x100m medley relay that set a new Games mark of 4-10.26.

Tatiana Tostevin was also part of that squad and had earlier struck 50m backstroke gold in 28.21.

Oriana Wheeler and Orla Rabey had finished in close succession for a silver and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Delphine Riley added to her distance medal haul with an 800m freestyle bronze, while Bown had the same colour in the 100m individual medley.

Double gold for Guernsey on the track

On the ‘Picky’ track, both Chris Bain and Rhiannon Dowinton produced golden runs – in very different circumstances.

For Glasgow 2026 Commonwealths hopeful Bain, his 5,000m triumph marked his first Games gold ever.

‘Baino’ had used his middle-distance speed – as shown in his earlier 1,500m silver – to overcome several threatening endurance runners and blaze to glory in the final 200m.

But Dowinton is no stranger to winning Games gold in her favoured 100m hurdles.

She powered through from start to finish to win in a personal best of 14.53 as her Guernsey ally, repeat long jump champion Vicky Hancock, came away with a bronze.

Archers finish week with team medal

Guernsey’s archers just missed their own gold in the recurve head-to-head team knockout.

They had been edged 5-4 in the final against the Faroes, leaving them to take the silver.

Guernsey now enter the home straight of the Games ranked third in the medal table, led only by the Faroes and Jersey, with several more opportunities looming ahead of this evening’s closing ceremony.
