More to come under Bournemouth boss, says Scott

Alex Scott has praised Andoni Iraola’s influence on both him and the AFC Bournemouth team following their first win of the new Premier League season over the weekend.

The Cherries beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium, with Marcus Tavernier scoring the only goal of the game.

Scott played a big role in the victory as the home side dominated the midfield in a more convincing victory than the scoreline suggested, and afterwards the Guernseyman revealed he was delighted his Spanish manager remained in situ over the summer, having been linked with some high-profile clubs including Tottenham Hotspur.

‘It was brilliant for us to keep him and particularly for me as well,’ Scott told the Daily Express.

‘He brought me here and gave me my Premier League debut.

‘He is a top manager and a top coach. He’s been here for a couple of years and really embedded his style of play.

‘The lads have brought into it really well and we’ve just gone up a lot each year he’s been here.

‘I’m very happy that he stayed and hopefully I can keep repaying his trust and keep performing.’

The England U21 player has started both of Bournemouth’s Premier League fixtures so far this campaign, the first being on the opening night against champions Liverpool at Anfield where the hosts required a couple of late goals to overcome the Cherries 4-2.

The Sarnian added that, if he can stay healthy, he believes he can flourish under Iraola.

‘He’s improved me so much tactically. When I came in at 19, I was quite raw coming from Bristol City. I played with a lot of freedom, I was almost told to just go out and do what I wanted,’ Scott said.

‘Then you come to a Premier League team and it’s a lot of structure. So I had to learn that and it took a while.

‘It’s been tough with injuries and it’s sometimes been hard for me to get a run of games.

‘But I’ve really enjoyed the last six months and hopefully I can keep improving.’
