The home side proved too strong for their Step 6 visitors Staplehurst at Victoria Park as goals from Jacob Fallaize, Ross Allen and Ben Solway gave them a convincing 3-0 victory which could have easily been more comprehensive.

‘I think first half we were really good and the players were outstanding,’ said GFC manager Tony Vance, whose side were two goals to the good by the break.

‘They did what we want them to do. It’s an enjoyable way of playing football and you could see they were liking it as well.

‘We turned the screw.. I thought we were really good first half and relentless, which is what we wanted.’

In contrast to the crazy 7-6 league game at Shoreham four days earlier, the Green Lions barely gave their opposition a sight of goal, but Vance was pleased that his skipper Allen had doubled their advantage from the penalty spot just moments before the interval.

‘You know what football’s like. 1-0 and they had a little bit of a breakaway but Doddsy [Thomas Dodds] got back.

‘When you play that style of football, that aggressive, pushing them backwards-style, you are going to leave a possible counter-attack scenario.

'These are the areas that we’re working on to try and negate that.

‘Obviously the other night you saw that end-to-end situation, and so the players did really, really well today to ensure that wasn’t the case.

‘The only thing missing was probably four or five goals, to be honest.

'I don’t think anyone could argue that we probably could have won about 8-0 today, all in.

'It’s a great performance from the players and well done to them.

‘The icing on the cake for us is the performance, but it was about the result.

'It’s just important to get in the next round and now you’ve got to cross your fingers and hope you get a decent home draw again.’
