The mother of Island Games athletes Sammy, Dan and Abi, she took up officiating in 2016 and has proven an unsung hero behind the scenes over the years. Her new post will include offering support and looking to enhance the experience of everyone who helps make the club’s events run smoothly.

The club’s expansive calendar of events relies on an army of volunteers who fulfil various roles from coaching and officiating to timekeeping and marshalling, course set-ups and manning the water stations. Although some of these tasks require training, which is supported by the club, many can be taken on by anyone with some spare time who wants to be at the heart of the action.

‘Having volunteered at the club for around 10 years, I’m looking forward to supporting all of our volunteers in this new director role,’ she said.

‘We’ll be launching a survey shortly to get feedback to help shape future volunteer initiatives and identify ways to recognise their contribution to athletics.’

Guernsey Athletics development officer Tom Druce is ‘really pleased’ with the appointment.

‘Volunteers are absolutely vital to our ongoing success and in creating this new role we hope to enhance our volunteers’ experience with us and ensure that it remains rewarding for them to be involved,’ he said.
