The 26-year-old Guernseyman is one of 32 umpires from across Europe who have been selected by the EuroHockey Institute for the 2026 editions of the Umpires for Nations and Umpires for Europe programmes.
The former Indies player was a regular umpire in local Guernsey Hockey league matches, inter-insulars and England Hockey knockout ties. He advanced through the England Hockey umpire qualification system while at university, and now is a regular at EH national and regional matches.
This latest milestone follows a comprehensive selection process conducted by the EuroHockey Officials Committee. The U4N and U4E programmes form part of the EHI’s mission to nurture the next generation of international officials, offering a mix of online learning, mentoring, and hands-on experience at tournaments across the continent.
The new group of promising officials from across Europe will take part in a year-long development journey designed to enhance their technical knowledge, match management, and personal growth.
Throughout the year, participants will engage in a series of online webinars, mentoring sessions, and interactive workshops, supported by the EHI’s experienced umpire mentors. Perfitt is the only Briton to have been selected.
Two in-person seminars will provide crucial learning and networking opportunities.
The first will be held in Prague in January, alongside the Women’s EuroHockey Indoor Championship. During the Easter weekend in April, umpires will join various tournaments to gain practical experience.
‘It’s going to be great learning from umpires and coaches from different countries, both in the classroom and out on the pitch. I can’t wait to head over to the Czech Republic in January and meet up with everyone,’ said Perfitt.
‘I’m very grateful to everyone who’s coached, assessed and supported me so far and excited to continue the journey on a European stage.’
EuroHockey Officials Committee chairwoman Magda Nazaret added: ‘It is very encouraging for the EuroHockey Institute to see that there are so many brilliant umpires in Europe who are looking to learn and improve.’
