Chalmers raises the bar again with 2025 performances

Alastair Chalmers retains his throne in the 2025 edition of Guernsey Athletics’ annual performance rankings.

The rankings utilise the popular World Athletics scoring tables and Chalmers’ 48.30sec. for the 400m hurdles raises the bar as Guernsey’s best performance of all time, being worth 1,216 points. He had made history last year as the first Sarnian to clear the 1,200-point barrier.

But there is movement behind him, with Chris Bain taking second in the annual rankings for the first time after coming close to a tough Commonwealth Games standard in the 1,500m.

He passes Abi Galpin, who remains Guernsey’s track and field queen with her continued excellence in the sprint events – the 100m being her leading scorer this season.

These two athletes have both broken the 1,000-point mark, which equates roughly to Commonwealths standard.

Richard Bartram’s own improvements over the metric mile have left him just short of four figures, scoring 990, while Gian-Luca Robilliard completes a quality overall top five with a fresh 800m PB.

Guernsey Athletics statistician Paul Ingrouille has highlighted not only Chalmers’ continued record-breaking but also the depth below him – with 35 athletes scoring above 800.

‘There’s good depth, with so many 800 points and above, and it’s good to see the list featuring our horizontal jumpers,’ he said.

He has previously highlighted an apparent harshness in the grading of field and longer endurance events.

The World Athletics tables do acknowledge the difficulty of comparing male and female performances, which are always covered separately.
