Priaulx starts season in new company at Daytona

Seb Priaulx will be joining forces with two of last year’s winning drivers in this weekend’s season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Although Priaulx had his own podium moment at Daytona in the No 64 Ford last season, he will instead be contesting this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the manufacturer’s No 65 drive, alongside Christopher Mies and Frederic Vervisch.

Mies and Vervisch made up two-thirds of the crew – the other driver being Dennis Olsen – that took the GTD Pro victory at last year’s equivalent race.

With his car set to start the highly demanding 24-hour race from sixth on the GTD Pro grid, Priaulx hopes to use their staying power and come away with another podium place.

‘We had a good one there – we finished third there last year,’ the 25-year-old said.

‘It’s the last hour that matters the most. You need to be right there.

‘It’s a 24-hour sprint race, but you need to be picking up the pieces towards the end and that’s where it matters.

‘We have that experience in the car – we know it lasts the 24 hours very well, so looking forward to it.’

Priaulx’s season-long racing ally Mike Rockenfeller maintains his place in the other Ford Multimatic Motorsports crew, alongside Ben Barker and Olsen.

Racing starts at 1.40pm EST (6.40pm GMT) and coverage will be available on YouTube or imsa.tv.
