After the U18s face Vale Rec this evening in their second Stranger Cup Group B clash, some of the players will be back in action on Sunday for the young Green Lions in their Jeremie Cup quarter-final before a trip to England to face York City at the end of next week.

‘We’re feeling good going into the Vale Rec game, we will be looking to use as much of the squad as possible against Rec and then in the York friendlies too. That’s a GFA link,' said Meakin, whose squad are building up to the Junior Muratti on 19 April in Jersey.

‘We’ve been away to Peacehaven already, we’ve got York City on Friday and then we will play Moneyfields in March, which we are really looking forward to.’

The U18s will likely have to win both of their remaining Stranger Cup group B games to secure a semi-final spot after losing 4-3 to Rovers.

Vale Rec have beaten Rovers but lost to Bels so far in the group stage, meaning that defeat tonight would end their chances of making the semi-finals.

On Sunday Meakin will be hoping to reach the last four in a different competition as GFC Development take on St Brelade in their rearranged Jeremie Cup quarter-final.

‘That will be a different challenge, with a different group of players,’ said Meakin.

‘We have a mix of the younger players who aren’t cup-tied with their clubs and some of the ex-GFC players like Ryan-Zico Black and Marc McGrath, as well as some of the current GFC squad who don’t play on Saturday.

‘Our reason for entering the cup was to play teams that aren’t in Guernsey so it will be good to get another competitive fixture and it’s one we are looking forward to.’

Tonight’s Stranger Cup Group B match between the Guernsey U18s and Vale Rec kicks off at 7.30pm while Guernsey FC Development’s Jeremie Cup quarter-final against St Brelade is a 11.30am start on Sunday. Both matches are at Victoria Park.
