Scott becoming ‘a very complete player’, says Iraola

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has heaped praise on Alex Scott after the Guernsey star played the starring role as the Cherries stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday.

The former St Martin’s and GFC midfielder scored his third league goal of the season to seal a 2-1 victory at the Emirates stadium and blow the title race wide open.

Speaking to TNT Sports at full-time, Iraola said Scott was ‘in a beautiful spot’.

‘He has played for us as a number 10, a number eight; today as a number six and he has added a lot of defensive work and a lot of duel-winning to the ability he has on the ball.

‘We know, if we give him good options on the ball, space to carry the ball, arrivals, he will give us this.’

‘I’m very happy because he is becoming a very, very complete player,’ he said.

Having earned a first England call-up in November, Scott was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad as the Three Lions prepare for the World Cup in North America this summer.

But Iraola said Scott could not be doing much more to stake a claim for national selection.

‘He is playing so well, but I understand in this country you have so many good players and sometimes to be at your very best level, it is not enough because there is someone also performing very well.

‘I suppose every time Thomas has to make a call-up it is very difficult because there are so many good options, but I am sure he will continue the same way and he will finish the season strongly.’

Bournemouth now sit 11th in the Premier League, three points off the top six, having gone a club-record 12 games unbeaten in the competition.

‘It felt really good. We’ve been unbeaten for a while now, not as many wins [as we’d like], so to come here and get the three points is a big statement,’ player-of-the-match Scott told TNT Sports.

‘I was playing deeper a lot today, about a minute before I got moved to more advanced and popped up with the goal. Raya’s a top keeper so I waited a little bit and saw he went one way and put it the other, so good finish from me, obviously really happy with that. I need to add more goals to my game, so yeah, really happy,’ he said.

The Cherries travel to Newcastle next with Scott now attracting plenty of attention - and talk about which clubs might be interested in taking him off their hands this summer.
