The Green Lions were frustrated by the already-relegated visitors for much of Saturday afternoon at Victoria Park where it remained goalless until, just moments after coming on as a substitute, George Goubert cut in from the left and beat Lancing goalkeeper Elliot Dailly with a finish into the bottom corner in the 78th minute.
Matt Loaring doubled the lead 10 minutes later as he nodded home from close range after Sam Murray had initially flicked on Jamie Dodd's long throw.
The Dodd-Murray combination worked once more in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but this time the forward's header found the net without the need for any of his teammates to help it in.
The three points ensured that GFC finished third in the table and they will now host Horsham YM at Victoria Park in the play-off semi-final on Saturday 2 May.
'There's an element of relief in there, but it was a difficult game, really difficult game. Fair play to Lancing, they went man to man with us – they've got absolutely nothing to play for, nothing to lose, so they just had a right go and they were good and made it hard for us.
'I think we deserved to win in the end, but it doesn't matter really. We got the win and we've achieved what we set out to do.'
Steyning Town were crowned champions after beating Seaford Town 2-0.
