Royal Guernsey Golf Club assistant professional Ronnie Casey has teamed up with Sam Le Huray to good effect this week and in Wednesday evening's semi-final they proved too strong for Roland Mills and Andy Chamberlain, who failed to hit the heights they had reached earlier in the competition.
Casey and Le Huray established an early lead – going 2 up after three holes – which they did not relinquish as the opposition's putters remained cold throughout the night despite the sun making a welcome appearance after a cloudy start.
Although they suffered a blip on the long sixth where they went out of bounds, by the time they reached the turn Casey and Le Huray were 3 up.
The margin became four on the 11th and when Casey holed a outrageous chip shot on the bounce for an extraordinary par to snatch a half on the 13th, Mills and Chamberlain knew it was not going to be their night and the end came at the 16th.
The victors will now face Danny Bisson and Jack Mitchell in the final after they were given a walkover due to the unavailability of Simon Ward, who had been due to partner Dave Robinson.
His absence meant that Mitchell could enjoy his birthday with his family before return to the L'Ancresse Links looking to make it back-to-back wins in the event.
The final tees off at 4.45pm.
