Several car users yesterday said they were already considering moving to electric in line with the times.
The charging points and reserved parking spaces for electric and hybrid vehicles were unveiled on Tuesday as part of the integrated transport strategy. The three-hour charging spaces and 10-hour parking spaces are set along the southern edge of the car park.
They add to three other charging points for the cars on the island at Hotel de Havelet, Les Douvres Hotel and Freelance Motors. Owners are also able to charge their cars from home.
Banker Nick Leale, 40, said the introduction of the facilities was a good thing despite having some reservations about the technology.
‘I don’t think electric cars are worth the money at the moment from what I’ve heard,’ he said.
‘They’re hard to get behind at the moment because of the limitations with the battery life. But in terms of the island looking forward in terms of new technology and more sustainable power resources, I am glad they are embracing it.’
