Hospital bed occupancy down from critical level

THE level of bed occupancy at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital has been reduced to 80%.

A red alert was issued on Thursday morning after occupancy exceeded 91%, leading to three non-emergency operations being postponed.

However, a spokesman for Health & Social Care said there had been no further cancellations and that levels had dropped below the 85% occupancy target.

Postponing procedures is ‘a last resort’ and extra agency staff have been engaged to ensure full capacity is maintained over the winter period.
