Relocating to Guernsey ‘only natural due to Corbyn Factor’

A CONSERVATIVE MP has said it was only natural for some people in the UK to look to more business-friendly jurisdictions in the light of Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party’s policies.

Andrew Rosindell Member of Parliament for Greater London’s Romford constituency – was commenting after Guernsey’s Economic Development president Charles Parkinson said that UK high net worth residents were looking to move to Guernsey as a result of ‘the Corbyn Factor’.

Andrew Rosindell – Member of Parliament for Greater London’s Romford constituency – was commenting after Guernsey’s Economic Development president Charles Parkinson said that UK high net-worth residents were looking to move to Guernsey as a result of ‘the Corbyn Factor’.

Mr Rosindell has previously shown an interest in the Crown Dependencies, and in July 2016 he made a plea for the UK Government not to overlook them as the Brexit talks unfolded.

After hearing Deputy Parkinson’s comments, he said it was clear that a lot of UK investors were hoping that Mr Corbyn did not take over the UK economy.

‘The unions would have a massive stranglehold on the country and it is not the right signal to give to the millions of small businesses who are growing this country’s economy,’ he said.

‘Naturally, individuals look to more business-friendly jurisdictions when the state tries to squeeze your finances too much.’

Labour needed to think more deeply about its policies, he added, and the party should look to increase the country’s competitiveness and productivity, not provide ‘empty soundbites’.

‘Having grown up in the 1970s and 80s, witnessing the

devastation that Socialism brought during those decades, I am deeply shocked to see these old arguments back in play,’ said Mr Rosindell.

Locate Guernsey, the States agency which promotes the island as a place to live and do business, has said that 24 relocations took place in 2017 with its help, made up of nine personal relocations and 15 businesses – creating 53 new jobs.
