Clic Sargent, a UK cancer charity for children and young people, is creating a larger property to replace Clic Haven, which opened in 1991 and has seen more than 300 families stay.
The bigger property is designed to be a haven for young cancer patients and their families, providing seven en-suite family bedrooms each sleeping up to four guests.
Matt said he knew the journey between Guernsey and Southampton well but could not imagine what it was like for families with sick children on the hospital ward.
‘I think it’s something to be really proud of that this building will be a vital lifeline for many families from Guernsey and other areas for years to come,’ he said.
‘I really hope that everyone in Guernsey gets behind Clic Sargent for this campaign and gives what they can.’
Clic Sargent fundraising and engagement manager for the Channel Islands Liz Blunt said it was good to have the support and that Mr Le Tissier took time to visit.
‘I hope this story inspires locals to give what they can to help us transform this site into a haven for children and young people with cancer,’ he said.
‘This new home will offer families vital home comforts when their lives have been turned upside down.’
Jean’s House has been forecast to open in autumn to provide free accommodation for young people, and their families, as they undergo cancer treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
Support has been given from donors including Signet and Sit Jules Thorne charitable trust as well as Children with Cancer UK, leaving £400,000 of £1.6m. left to raise.
