Sir Richard to stay as Bailiff
BAILIFF Sir Richard Collas officially had his term of office extended for two years yesterday.
A special sitting took place in the Royal Court at which Sir Richard presented his Letters Patent from Her Majesty the Queen to the court in Guernsey French.
Deputy Bailiff Richard McMahon, presiding, was satisfied of the letters’ validity and the Jurats agreed.
HM Procureur Megan Pullum then read the letters out in full.
Mr McMahon then addressed the Bailiff.
‘First of all, happy birthday for last Sunday,’ Mr McMahon said.
‘We are delighted that you sought to seek an extension and even more delighted that Her Majesty agreed.
‘All who know you recognise, as you put it on 15 March, that you are in the position to offer energy and enthusiasm to the role in the office and that you see it has a great honour.’
He added that over the last six years, Sir Richard had demonstrated all the quality and skills that were required of Bailiff.
‘You are a public servant at highest calibre.’
On behalf of judges, jurats, Royal Court staff and the community, he wished Sir Richard well.
Sir Richard was sworn in as Bailiff on 23 March 2012.
