England face Croatia at 7pm tomorrow, with a place in the Fifa World Cup final at stake.

Guernsey Rangers president Zoe Lihou said the clubhouse would be opening up again for the match, which has sparked the interest of islanders of all ages.

‘I do think any major tournament with a positive result on and off the pitch benefits grassroots footie, where players and fans inspire our players or would-be players,’ she said.

‘So far, the behaviour of fans abroad has been encouraging.

‘Attracting players is always a challenge for clubs.

‘The ladies’ game benefited from a positive Lioness performance, so let’s hope the momentum and results continue.’

Sylvans president Nigel Gallienne said the benefits of England doing well could be seen in the island.

‘It is a good thing, lots of clubs have been opening up and offering cheap drinks,’ he said.

‘We did so on Saturday as there is slightly more interest from the quarter finals onwards. We had more there than we would normally and we will be opening again on Wednesday and hopefully on Sunday [the date of the final].

‘It brings more money into the club and raises awareness of the club, which is a positive.’

The KGV had around 400 football fans for Saturday’s win against Sweden and hoped to attract even more tomorrow.

‘We will have the bar as normal and three 60in. screens outside with an outdoor bar and a barbecue,’ said Phil Cox, from the KGV.

‘We will put them in shady areas so that there are no issues in terms of people seeing the screens.

‘If we get 500-600 on Wednesday, there would be no problems for people viewing the match.’

The Peninsula Hotel attracted hundreds to its outdoor screening on Saturday and general manager Ben Vispalie said it had created a great atmosphere.

‘It was chock-a-block and we’re really looking forward to Wednesday’s match,’ he said. ‘It is going to be the same thing and hopefully it is going to be full up.’

The winner of England v. Croatia will face France or Belgium – who play tonight – in the World Cup Final on Sunday.

It is the first time since 1990 that England has reached this stage of the competition.
